چکیده

Coordination is an essential ingredient of joint activity in humanagent-robot teams. In this paper, we discuss some of the challenges and requirements for successful coordination, and briefly how we have used KAoS HART services framework to support coordination in a multi-team humanrobot field exercise.

Incorporating Transparency During Trust-Guided Behavior Adaptation

An important consideration in human-robot teams is ensuring that the robot is trusted by its teammates. Without adequate trust, the robot may be underutilized or disused, potentially exposing human teammates to dangerous situations. We have previously investigated an agent that can assess its own trustworthiness and adapt its behavior accordingly. In this paper we extend our work by adding a tr...

Cognition-enabled Task Interpretation for Human-Robot Teams in a Simulation-based Search and Rescue Mission

Due to humans and robots complementary capabilities, mixed human-robot teams are considerably deployed in realworld settings. A favored communication means is the natural language used by humans that is still a challenge for robotic teammates. They need to understand the environment from the viewpoint of their human teammates in order to be able to translate the instructions received in the nat...

Achieving Fluency through Practice in Human-Robot Collaboration: Effects on Efficiency, Fluency, and Attitude toward Robotic Teammates

We have developed a cognitive architecture for a robotic teammate based on the neuro-psychological principles of perceptual symbols and simulation, with the aim of attaining increased fluency in human-robot teams. An instantiation of this architecture was implemented on a robotic desk lamp, performing in a human-robot collaborative task. This paper describes initial results from a human-subject...

Teaching and leading an ad hoc teammate: Collaboration without pre-coordination

As autonomous agents proliferate in the real world, both in software and robotic settings, they will increasingly need to band together for cooperative activities with previously unfamiliar teammates. In such ad hoc team settings, team strategies cannot be developed a priori. Rather, an agent must be prepared to cooperate with many types of teammates: it must collaborate without pre-coordinatio...

Samuel Barrett's Research Statement

My research focuses on investigating how robots and other agents should learn and cooperate in order to tackle realworld problems. Agents are entities that repeatedly interact with their environment in order to accomplish their goals. In order for robots and other agents to handle many real-world problems, they must be able to cooperate with other agents and humans. However, they may not always...
